Dear Winchendon Community,
As we look ahead to the FY26 school department budget, we want to acknowledge the very real financial challenges our town is facing. The current budget deficit is a serious concern that affects all sectors of our community, including our schools. As a district, we fully understand the gravity of the situation and the need for all of us to be thoughtful and collaborative in addressing these issues. Our top priority is to ensure that the needs of our students are met while remaining fiscally responsible.
The Winchendon School District is committed to providing a high-quality education for all of our students, but we recognize that in the face of the town’s budget deficit, difficult decisions will have to be made. We are prepared to work diligently to ensure that our budget aligns with the town’s overall financial plan while also safeguarding the core elements of our educational programs. We understand that sacrifices may be necessary, but it is our hope that these decisions will be made with careful consideration of both the short- and long-term impacts on our students and the community.
We are all in this together. The strength of our schools is tied to the strength of the town as a whole, and we share a common goal of ensuring Winchendon remains a vibrant and thriving community. As we move forward, we will continue to seek input from residents, parents, and other stakeholders to find solutions that balance our educational needs with fiscal responsibility. Together, we can navigate these challenges and come out stronger as a community.
The proposed budget is attached below.
Sincerely,
The Winchendon School Committee & District Leadership Team
